JOB SUMMARY

The Respiratory Aide is responsible for performing multiple duties that require an expertise in the assembly, transport, disinfection, calibration and troubleshooting of respiratory related equipment. The Respiratory Aide works under the direction of a Respiratory Therapist. The Respiratory Aide is responsible for maintaining an appropriate level of equipment in the various respiratory work areas and assisting the Respiratory Therapists in providing directly supervised non-therapeutic patient care activities and assist with emergent basic life support activities consistent with required training and Wentworth-Douglass Hospital policy. The Respiratory Aide conducts other assigned tasks by the Respiratory Therapist in keeping with the Respiratory Therapy Aide's defined duties and the New Hampshire

  • Office of Professional Licensure and Certification: Respiratory Care Practitioner Law: Resp 409.01 (a)(1) through (a)(5) and Resp 101.07.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs routine assembly, maintenance and cleaning of various types of Respiratory Care Equipment.

    1. Disinfects equipment prior to calibration and assembly.
    2. Transports equipment to/from the Pulmonary medicine Department.
    3. Appropriately handles and uses cleaning and disinfecting solutions and equipment.
    4. Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of RT equipment bins.
    5. Maintains appropriate levels of equipment in the various respiratory care work areas.
    6. Obtain needed equipment for Respiratory Care Practitioner when requested.
    7. Inspect equipment for correct assembly, assure all parts are in proper working order, and perform preventative maintenance according to established protocols.
    8. Report all inspections, safety checks, repairs, calibrations problems, etc. to the respiratory therapist and document per departmental policy.

    1. Displays professional etiquette utilizing respectful communication toward coworkers, patients and other healthcare providers.
    2. Exhibits flexibility in assignments and performance expectation and is adaptive to change.
    3. Demonstrates ability to effectively manage time, is focused, well organized, prioritizes and completes assignments/tasks by established time frame.
    4. Actively fosters communication with Respiratory Therapist regarding daily issues, discrepancies and concerns.
    5. Demonstrates competence in office equipment and various computer systems/applications to facilitate departmental operations.
    6. Maintains competency pertinent to the EMR information system and can access patient information.
  2. Provides assistance to Respiratory Therapists.
    1. Procures the proper requested therapeutic equipment.
    2. Uses proper PPE when entering patient rooms to inspect, deliver or retrieve equipment.
    3. Assembles, calibrates and pre-use tests relevant equipment.

Qualifications

  • Experience Minimum Required
    • Completion of one semester in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Experience Preferred/Desired
    • Experience in a healthcare setting
  • Education Minimum Required
    • One semester at an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Special Skills Minimum Required
    • Ability to multi-task in fast paced environment
    • Presenting in a calm, professional manner
    • Offer exemplary internal and external customer relations
    • Strong relationship building skills
    • Good communication skills both oral and written
  • Licensure and/or Certifications Required
    • Healthcare Provider BLS
