1.Provides accurate diagnostic information that is used by physicians to render a formal final medical diagnosis.
a.Assesses factors that contraindicate procedure i.e.: medications, artifacts, required information, blood results, written orders.
b.Performs clinical assessment and cardiac sonography providing full explanation to the patient and care givers.
c.Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.
d.Acquire all previous echo findings to include any and all outside studies for comparison.
e.Uses independent judgement during the procedure to accurately differentiate between normal and pathological findings.
f.Confer with ordering physician for unusual problems that arise while patient is in the echo lab.
g.Prepares preliminary reports and contacts Cardiologist/ referring physician when required according to established protocol/procedures.
h.Responsible for daily operations of the echo lab, patient schedule, and QA programs mandatory for ICAEL accreditation.
i.Ability to communicate effectively with the patient and the health care team, recognizing the special nature of echocardiography and patient's needs.
j.Maintains daily log of patients seen and completes procedure billing via RIS accurately.
k.Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of all patients while in the echo lab.
l.Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area, reports equipment failures to manager, and maintains adequate supplies.
m.Establishes and maintains working relationships and good rapport with all interrelating hospitals, referral or commercial agencies.

2.Demonstrates a uniform high level of competency in numerous areas of expertise within echocardiography.
.Is knowledgeable in cardiac function, anatomy, physiology, hemodynamics.
a.Uses knowledge of cardiac medications towards cardiac diseases and echo findings.
b.Documents 2/D, m-mode, pulse wave, continuous wave, color flow doppler, and harmonics as they relate to daily tasks.
c.Provides digital acquisition and storage of echocardiograms.
d.Assist with TEE, SE(either post exercise or during pharmacological stress testing) and pericardialcentesis.
e.Can distinguish artifact/technical factors from pathology for appropriate diagnosis.
f.Review and update existing policies, procedures and protocols per ICAEL standards.
g.Performs venipuncture and assess and maintains IV patency.
h.Set up and perform agitated contrast injections.
i.Refers questions about diagnosis or treatment to patient's physician.
j.Documents diagnostic, treatment and patient data in the appropriate medical and departmental record.
k.Maintains department logs, schedules and statistics.
l.Demonstrates effective organization and management skills.

3.Acquires and maintains knowledge and competency in Echocardiography as set forth by the ARDMS.
.Active certification by ARDMS (RDCS)
a.Ensure that the Echo lab maintains its accreditation within ICAEL through specific requirements.
b.Current compliance with continuing medical education requirements specific for echocardiography.

4.Self regulation and the promotion of higher standards to personnel in the field.
.Provides health care services with respect for dignity and age specific needs.
a.Respects the patients right to privacy and confidentiality.
b.Adheres to established standards of the profession.
c.Participates in team spirit and becomes involved in daily decision making for improvements.

5.Capable of applying skills to an environment with spontaneous changes occurring.
.Responsible for solving daily operational problems, including trouble-shooting equipment malfunctions.
a.Exhibits flexibility and independent judgement due to the unpredictable nature of echocardiographic procedures, technical quality and unexpected
b.Must be prepared to recognize any condition, whether observed in the echo lab or inpatient behavior within the department, that may pose an immediate threat to health and react appropriately.

6.Technology Management-uses technical equipment and devices to monitor patient condition or sustain life.

7.Provides age-specific, individualized care that supports psychosocial and facilitates lifestyle changes.
.Active Listening-Attends closely to and attaches significance to a patient's verbal and nonverbal message.
a.Emotional Support-Provides reassurance, acceptance and encouragement during times of stress.

8.Provides age-specific, individualized care that supports patient from harm.
.Code management: Coordinates emergency measures to sustain life
a.Fall Prevention-Institutes special precautions with patient at risk for injury from falling.
b.Infection Control-Minimizes the acquisition and transmission of infectious agents.
c.Surveillance: Safety-Collects and analyzes information about the patient and the environment for use in promoting and maintaining patient safety.
d.Vital Signs Monitoring-Collects and analyzes cardiovascular, respiratory and body temperature data to determine and prevent complications.

9.Provides age-specific, individualized care that supports the family unit.
.Family Involvement-Facilitates family participation in the emotional and physical care of the patient.

10.Leadership Performance
.Accurately edits and completes all payroll functions by noon Monday. Assigns completion of payroll via email to editors during all scheduled time off.
a.Assures overtime/vacation to remain within budgetary parameters for scheduling and staffing needs.
b.Creates, updates, and maintains all personnel binders on a semi-annual basis.
c.Creates team of staff members to become involved in daily decision making for improvements.
d.Proactive mentoring and documented orientation with new staff members.
e.Completes initial phase of capital and operating budgets during budget process and within specified timeframe.
f.Actively pursues improving customer service via surveys and patient complaints. Uses Press Ganey to suggest improvement plans.
g.Maintains an effective departmental organization to ensure high quality standards and services.
h.Ensures safe working conditions and takes corrective action as required.
i.Develops action plan to reduce waiting times for scheduled cases.
j.Oversees at least 6 (six) annual departmental meetings, create agenda and send out prior to meeting and provide online meeting minutes.
k.Offers and provides self or staff to other cardiovascular modalities for additional help as needed.
l.Ensures equipment maintenance, PM's, and operation's comply with established clinical engineering and manufactures guidelines utilizing "minute man" software.
m.Ensures that protocol and procedure manuals include recommended criteria and are reviewed and revised on and annual basis.
n.Practices open communication to elicit confidence and cooperation from staff, patient, the public, and other health care providers.
o.Provides timely, concise, accurate, and complete documentation and feedback of necessary incidences, occurrence's, etc.
p.Provides documentation that adheres to current protocol, policy and procedures; including instrumentation QC.
q.Evaluates performance of staff in specified area. Initiates and complete performance reviews within hospital time frame.
r.Monitors and reconciles financial statements (Cypress) with procedural productivity specific to modality on a daily and /or weekly basis.
s.Resolves conflicts and provides timely documentation
t.Continually monitors and documents process and system improvements.

11.Flexibility-All essential functions are subject to change based on needs of the department.
.Exhibits flexibility in assignments and performance expectations.


Experience Minimum Required
• 3 years experience in echocardiography.
• 3 years management experience.

Experience Preferred/Desired
• 5 years management experience in modality operations.
• 5 years experience in general and special echocardiographic ultrasound.
• Prior experience with ICAEL accreditation process.

Education Minimum Required
• Graduate of an accredited echocardiology program (12 months full time).
• Additional training in 2 specialty modalities.
• ARDMS credentialed

Education Preferred/Desired
• BS in related field.
• ARDMS, RDCS, RCS credential.

Training Minimum Required
• Trained in an accredited echocardiographic program in both general and specialty procedures.
• Training in management practices i.e.: budget, staffing, staffing competencies, scheduling, equipment purchases and contracts.
• Experience in accreditation process ICAEL.
• Experience with day to day operations.
• 3 years direct echocardiographic experience both general and special.
• 3 years experience in service management.
• Experience with one accreditation term- 3 years.

Training Preferred/Desired
• 5 years varied echocardiographic procedure experience.
• 5 years management experience.
• Experience guiding laboratory to successful accreditation.

Special Skills Minimum Required
• Computer manipulation, and mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to collaborate efficiently, ethically, and courteously with all hospital personnel.
• Excellent verbal and written skills to facilitate communication with a variety of medical and technical personnel.
• 4 years echo procedures.
• 3 years managerial work, 1 cycle of accreditation experience, well versed in all pharmacological agents.
• Previous staff training experience.
• IV Certification w/in 6 mos.

Special Skills Preferred/Desired
• Management focus with command of all echocardiographic procedures.
• Experienced in staff training and technical supervision.
• Command of accreditation process.
• Interest in service growth and development.

Licensure and/or Certifications Required
• ARDMS, Basic Arrythmia, BLS, Certification in 2 modalities,
• NH Medical Imaging Sonographer License (SONOLIC)

Licensure and/or Certifications Preferred/Desired
• ACLS, EKG, Professional Registry
