•Assists with care provision (under the direction of the Registered Nurse)
oAssists with patient transport within the OR suite as needed.
oAssists with moving and lifting patients
oDemonstrates knowledge of positioning devices needed for cases
oIs able to set up positioning devices that require set up, e.g., Beach Chair shoulder positioner.
oDemonstrates knowledge of surgical asepsis and traffic control while working within the OR suite, wearing PPE's as appropriate
•Performs between case decontamination and cleaning.
oPerforms between case turnover activities according to defined standards and policy
oEnsures anesthesia carts and anesthesia machines are fully turned over during all room turnovers
oRestocks anesthesia carts according to established supply par levels.
oDecontaminates and cleans rooms after the last case of the day prior to terminal cleaning by housekeeping staff, ensuring readiness for any emergency procedures
oDemonstrates knowledge of perioperative environmental sanitation
oPrepares disinfectant solutions according to manufacturer instructions for use
oMaintains a neat, safe and clean environment in the OR suite while patient care is occurring, spot cleaning as necessary
•Assists in maintaining OR equipment and orderliness of equipment storage.
oDemonstrates a basic knowledge of the use of OR equipment
oAssists in keeping equipment storage room neat and organized, according to defined layout for easy equipment retrieval and to minimize equipment damage.
oAssists in anticipating the need for equipment and bringing to OR staff when needed for case.
oAssists in returning equipment to storage room after use, keeping hallways clear of unneeded equipment.
oDisinfects used equipment before returning it to storage
oAssists in visually inspecting equipment and reporting equipment needing service to leadership and/or clinical engineering
oReturns OR beds in storage to neutral position with standard accessories accounted for
oAssists in disinfecting and organizing lead aprons on rack after use.
oAssists in organizing fracture table accessories on the accessory cart.
oAssists in inventorying 02 tanks in each OR and ensuring a full tank in each OR at the start of the day.
oAssists stocking anesthesia supplies in the anesthesia stock room daily as needed
•Ensures the Timely Transport of Surgical Specimens to the Pathology/Lab
oDelivers specimens to the Pathology lab according to defined schedule
oDocuments specimen delivery and receipt on the specimen log
•Utilizes organizational skills to assure smooth functioning of department operations.
oRuns errands as required, assisting with special procedures, and other tasks as indicated
oKeeps scrub sinks stocked with hand scrub solutions, scrub brushes and masks, and keeps the scrub areas neat and clean
oAssists with the orientation to Perioperative Assistant duties of new or transferred employees to the unit.
oPrioritizes delegated tasks based on patient care needs and unit activities
oRequests assistance with delegated tasks when needed or unsure
oCompletes work/assignments within allotted time, reporting unfinished responsibilities
oAssists pick room staff with stocking of generic room stock as needed.
oChecks inventory levels of fluid and blanket warmers on a daily basis.
oArrange for transport of inpatient beds for patients who will stay overnight or for observation.
•Previous nursing assistance experience in an Operating Room
Education Minimum Required
