Receiving direction from the Operations Manager and lead mammography technologist, operates mammographic equipment and devices to perform breast imaging examinations of diagnostic quality for radiologist interpretation. Performs screening, diagnostic, specimen and interventional examinations conforming to image and data-integrity quality standards.
Perform Mammographic studies using a Tomographic (2D and 3D) device; prepares and positions patient, sets imaging parameters and compression, performs computer processing and displays images.
Recognize equipment related QA issues. Review results with Lead Technologist and/or Operations Manager and report any potential equipment related problems to supervisor as necessary.
Prepare for and perform Breast procedures to include but not limited to the use of the upright mammographic stereo device and needle localizations. Understand and can communicate patient history to radiologist.
Prepare and perform specimen imaging and processing for laboratory pathology analysis.
Assist Lead Technologist and/or Operations Manager in developing, reviewing and revising schedules and workflows for patient studies.
Instruct visitors and medical staff when visiting the unit; instruction may include: patient procedures, processing, equipment operation, safety practices, etc.
Maintain a neat work environment, including patient care areas, Mammographic scan and control rooms and reading areas.
Assist department staff members in various duties as necessary, i.e. scheduling and transporting patients, taking stock inventory and filing. Adjusts equipment to correct setting for procedures.
Positions and instructs patients regarding the procedure.
Determines the proper voltage, current and desired exposure time and sets equipment.
Arranges, attaches or adjusts supportive devices to prevent the patient from moving and to aid in some comfort during localization.
Adjusts lead shields to protect unaffected parts from exposure to radiation.
Positions equipment.
Repeats exposure procedure from slightly different angles as pre-
scribed by physician and or radiologist.
Responsible for the complete image process, including transmission of images and verification of images on PACS.
Maintains records for quality assurance of all x-ray equipment and processors. Including weekly Quality Control documentation.
Provides on-the-job training to x-ray students as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience Preferred/Desired
A minimum of 1 year experience as a mammography technologist
Education Minimum Required
Associates degree from an approved radiology training program
Special Skills Minimum Required
• Computer manipulation, verbal and written communication skills, mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative manner.
• Ability to make effective professional judgement and decisions based on objective criteria.
Licensure and/or Certifications Required
• NH State Medical Imaging License
• ARRT, Certified Mammography and Radiology
• ARC or AHA BLS
