Position Overview: As a Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) specializing in Wound Care at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, you will be a key member of the healthcare team, delivering compassionate and skilled care to patients with complex wound conditions. Working under the guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide essential wound care services, assist with patient transfers, maintain treatment rooms, and contribute to ensuring a clean and well-stocked environment. Your commitment to patient care, attention to detail, and teamwork will help us provide exceptional healthcare services.
Responsibilities:
Wound Care Support:
- Collaborate with the RN to provide stable wound care to patients, following established protocols and guidelines.
- Safely remove wound dressings and assist with wound cleansing under RN supervision.
- Take pictures of wounds on Ipad and document wounds measurements in the chart as completed by the nurse.
- Assist during wound care procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
Vital Signs and Patient Monitoring:
- Accurately measure and record vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiratory rate.
- Promptly document vital signs in patients' electronic medical records and report any significant changes to the RN.
Patient Care and Assistance:
- Provide patient assistance with transfers, prioritizing safety and comfort during movements.
- Support patients with activities of daily living while respecting their dignity and privacy.
- Monitor patients for distress or discomfort, promptly informing the RN as needed.
Blood Sugar Monitoring:
- Perform blood glucose monitoring for patients experiencing hyperglycemic episodes, as directed by the RN.
- Communicate blood sugar readings to the healthcare team and assist with appropriate interventions.
Treatment Room Maintenance and Supply Management:
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of treatment rooms and equipment.
- Stock treatment rooms and linen closets with necessary supplies, ensuring availability for wound care procedures.
- Retrieve wound care dressings and supplies for the RN as requested.
Collaboration and Documentation:
- Work collaboratively with Registered Nurse- wound care specialists, and healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Assist with documentation of wound measurements, interventions, and patient responses in electronic medical records.
Patient Communication:
- Interact with patients in a compassionate manner, addressing questions and concerns effectively.
- Explain wound care procedures to patients and contribute to promoting patient understanding.
Quality and Safety:
- Adhere to infection control protocols, maintaining a clean and safe environment for wound care.
- Follow hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines consistently.
Qualifications
• 3 months clerical; 3 months as LNA
Experience Preferred/Desired
• Over one year clerical and transcription of orders; LNA experience in an acute care setting
Education Minimum Required
• High School graduate with office practice courses; graduate of an LNA program
Licensure and/or Certifications Required
• ARC or AHA BLS, LNA
